CHALLENGE
To innovate a traditional campaign channel while showcasing industry knowledge and appealing to experts...
Motorcycle rallies across the United States are a gathering place for motorcycle enthusiasts, but also a battleground for companies wanting to be their insurers.
Typically these activation footprints are devoid of innovation beyond product demos and free swag, but our team at Octagon was tasked to push the envelope to make a mark not just in the motorcycle industry, but in the insurance industry as well.
SOLUTION
we built a 4D recreation of famous rides onto a physical motorcycle...
Partnering with experiential agency Next/Now, we concepted and created a 4-dimensionsal VR experience built directly onto an Indian Scout motorcycle.
Riders would choose from two courses, Pacific Coast Highway or Needles, and proceed through a true-to-life course as they would on a real bike—leaning, accelerating, and braking along the way.
As they drove, a rumble pack would rattle the bike, fans would blow wind related to their speed, and the handlebar throttle would correctly register their input.
RESULTS
immersing thousands of riders at dozens of events for over two years...
The activation ran at over two dozen events each year for two years, from rallies in Daytona Beach, FL to Sturgis, ND. Typical events would average nearly 100 riders a day.
The experience was recreated on two smaller setups in the footprint (standalones) to help with overflow from the main attraction bike.
